Parent Topic: Assigning Permissions to NI InsightCM Web Application Users

Before you begin:Familiarize yourself with the concepts in the Assigning Permissions to NI InsightCM Web Application Users help topic. As that topic explains, the steps below are valid regardless of whether you use Windows Active Directory to authenticate users. However, if you do use Active Directory, you might need to perform additional steps before and after completing the steps below.

Complete the following steps to assign permissions to a role:

  1. Expand the Navigation menu and select Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box that displays, navigate to the Roles and Permissions section underneath the Security category.
  3. Click the Add button next to the Role field and enter a name for the new role. To edit an existing role, select it from the list of roles.
  4. Click the Add button next to the Permissions field. The NI InsightCM web application displays a dialog box that lists all available permissions. For a description of each permission, refer to the List of NI InsightCM Web Application Permissions.
    Tip  You can <Ctrl>- or <Shift>-click permissions to select multiple permissions at the same time.

Unless you disable built-in roles, users can log into the NI InsightCM web application by entering the name of a role and no password.
