Parent Topic: Setting Up Email Alarm Notifications

To add or edit an email template, click the navigation menu , select Options, and select Email Templates from the tree in the resulting dialog box. Complete the fields to create an email template you can assign to alarm rules so NI InsightCM Server sends an email notification whenever the alarm is set.

Tip  In addition to static text, you can insert dynamic information about an alarm or rule, such as severity or set point, into the subject or contents fields. Refer to the following section for a list of the strings NI InsightCM Server automatically replaces with dynamic information.

List of Strings that Insert Dynamic Information in Notifications

In the subject and body of a template, you can enter predefined strings, surrounded by the % sign, that NI InsightCM Server replaces with actual values from the system when it sends email notifications. This is useful for providing recipients with specific information about the alarm source and the conditions that caused the alarm. For example, you can design an email template that instructs NI InsightCM Server to dynamically insert the following values in the subject or body:

  • Name of the asset whose measurement caused the alarm
  • Actual value when NI InsightCM Server evaluated the alarm rule
  • Severity of the alarm rule

Because these fields are dynamic, you can reuse the same template with similar rules that evaluate other device channels.
