NREL uses NI CompactRIO for use in Power Inverter control.

Overview

Listen as Bill Kramer from NREL talks about the advancements of the Smart Grid.  NREL is working with NI to develop a concept called modular power electronics. With the NI RIO off-the-shelf platform, NREL can take their new control algorithms from prototype to deployment and create a software reconfigurable, general purpose inverter control platform.
