Analyzer Messages Tab

Use the Analyzer Messages tab to view and resolve the messages for the most recent analysis of the current TestStand Sequence Analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file in the order in which the analyzer generated them. In the TestStand Sequence Editor, the sequence analyzer creates messages tabs for each sequence file you open and each analyzer project or workspace file you analyze. Each time you start an analysis session of an analyzer project or workspace file, the sequence analyzer overwrites the content of the Analyzer Messages tab. When you analyze a sequence file, the sequence analyzer overwrites the content of the tab except for the messages shown in the Messages the Sequence File Ignores view.

The Analyzer Messages tab contains the following controls:

  • Show—Filters the messages to show in the Messages list. You can also show the list of analyzed files. The Show ring control contains the following options:
    • Active Messages—Shows the messages in the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file that represent the issues you must address by marking the message as ignored or fixed.
    • Messages the Analyzer Project Ignores—Shows the messages in the current analyzer project or workspace file that you marked to ignore in future analysis. The sequence analyzer maintains this list and does not report these messages again in subsequent analysis sessions. When analyzing the analyzer project, the sequence analyzer stores this list in the analyzer project file.

Right-click a message and select Mark Message as Active from the context menu to return the message to the Active Messages view.

Dimmed messages in this view indicate that the most recent analysis of the current project or workspace file did not generate the message. You cannot make dimmed messages active, but you can right-click the dimmed message and select Delete Message from the context menu to remove the message from the current project.
    • Messages the Sequence File Ignores—Shows the messages in the current sequence file that you marked to ignore in future analysis. The sequence analyzer stores this list with the sequence file and does not report these messages again in subsequent analysis sessions.
    • Messages Marked as Fixed—Shows the messages in the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file that you marked as fixed. The sequence analyzer reports these messages again in future analysis sessions if you do not fix the issue itself.

Right-click a message and select Mark Message as Active from the context menu to return the message to the Active Messages view.
    • Analyzed Files—Shows the list of files the sequence analyzer analyzed for the most recent analysis session and the number of messages associated with each file.
  • Group By—Specifies how to group the messages in the Messages list. Click the column headers to resort the list. The Group By ring control is disabled when you set the Show ring control to Analyzed Files. The Group By ring control contains the following options:
    • <None>—Shows the messages in the order in which the sequence analyzer generated them.
    • Severity—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by message severity level.
    • Rule—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the rule associated with each message.
    • Category—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the category of the rule associated with each message.
    • Text—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the message text.
    • File—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the file that generated the message.
    • Location—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the property path of the object that generated the message.
    • Justification to Ignore—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the justification to ignore text associated with a message marked as ignored.
  • Messages List—List of messages for the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file in the order in which the sequence analyzer generated them. The sequence analyzer adds new messages to the bottom of the list.

Right-click the list to display the context menu, which you use to resolve each message and specify which columns to show or hide. You can also right-click the column header to show or hide columns. Click the column header to resort the messages in the list. Drag the column header to reorder the columns.
  • Message Details—Details for the analysis message you select, including suggestions for how to fix the related issue. This control is empty when you select more than one message.
  • Restart Analysis—Restarts the analysis of the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file.
  • Stop Analysis—Stops the analysis of the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file.
  • Current Sequence Analyzer Project—Shows the Current Sequence Analyzer Project window.
  • Generate Analysis Report—Saves the messages for the most recent analysis in an XML report file to use in an external viewer. The XML file uses the AnalyzerReportViewer.xsl style sheet, located in the <TestStand>\Components\Stylesheets\Analyzer directory. Use the XML Packaging Utility to package the files necessary to view the XML report on a computer that does not have TestStand installed.

When you generate a report file, the sequence analyzer provides a snapshot of the most recent analysis, including a list of the analyzed files, a list of the rules and settings used during the analysis, and a list of all the generated messages. The report file does not include the list of messages the sequence files ignored during analysis.
