Messages Tab

Use the Messages tab to view and resolve the messages for the most recent analysis of the current TestStand Sequence Analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file in the order in which the analyzer generated them. The sequence analyzer overwrites the content of the Messages tab each time you start an analysis session.

The Analyzer Messages tab contains the following controls:

  • Show—Filters the messages to show in the Messages list. You can also show the list of analyzed files. The Show ring control contains the following options:
    • Active Messages—Shows the messages in the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file that represent the issues you must address by marking the message as ignored or fixed.
    • Ignored Messages—Shows the messages in the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file that you marked to ignore in future analysis. The sequence analyzer maintains this list and does not report these messages again in subsequent analysis sessions.

Right-click a message and select Mark Message as Active from the context menu to return the message to the Active Messages view.

Dimmed messages in the Ignored Messages view indicate that the most recent analysis of the current project, sequence file, or workspace file did not generate the message. You cannot make dimmed messages active, but you can right-click the dimmed message and select Delete Message from the context menu to remove the message from the current project.
    • Messages Marked as Fixed—Shows the messages in the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file that you marked as fixed. The sequence analyzer reports these messages again in future analysis sessions if you do not fix the issue itself.

Right-click a message and select Mark Message as Active from the context menu to return the message to the Active Messages view.
  • Group By—Specifies how to group the messages in the Messages list. Click the column headers to resort the list. The Group By ring control contains the following options:
    • <None>—Shows the messages in the order in which the sequence analyzer generated them.
    • Severity—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by message severity level.
    • Rule—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the rule associated with each message.
    • Category—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the category of the rule associated with each message.
    • Text—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the message text.
    • File—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the file that generated the message.
    • Location—Groups the messages in alphabetical order by the property path of the object that generated the message.
  • Messages List—List of messages for the current analyzer project, sequence file, or workspace file in the order in which the sequence analyzer generated them. The sequence analyzer adds new messages to the bottom of the list.

Right-click the list to display the context menu, which you use to resolve each message and specify which columns to show or hide. You can also right-click the column header to show or hide columns. Click the column header to resort the messages in the list. Drag the column header to reorder the columns.
  • Message Details—Details for the analysis message you select, including suggestions for how to fix the related issue. This control is empty when you select more than one message.
  • Generate Analysis Report—Saves the messages for the most recent analysis in an XML report file to use in an external viewer. The XML file uses the AnalyzerReportViewer.xsl style sheet, located in the <TestStand>\Components\Stylesheets\Analyzer directory. Use the XML Packaging Utility to package the files necessary to view the XML report on a computer that does not have TestStand installed.

When you generate a report file, the sequence analyzer provides a snapshot of the most recent analysis, including a list of the analyzed files, a list of the rules and settings used during the analysis, and a list of all the generated messages.
