Adding RT Targets to a LabVIEW Project (Real-Time Module)

You must use a LabVIEW project to work with an RT target. Complete the following steps to add an RT target to a project:

  1. Create a project using the Real-Time Project Wizard or the Project Explorer window.
  2. Right-click the project root and select New»Targets and Devices from the shortcut menu to display the Add Targets and Devices dialog box. If an RT target in the project supports other targets, you also can right-click the target and select New»Targets and Devices from the shortcut menu to add a target under the existing target. For example, if you have an NI FPGA target installed in an NI PXI target, you can add the device under the RT target.
  3. Select the type of RT target you want to add from the Targets and Devices section of the Add Targets and Devices dialog box. You can select from the following options to specify an RT target:
    • Existing target or device—Allows you to display all targets and devices on the local subnet or with a specified address.
      • Discover an existing target(s) or device(s)—Displays all targets and devices on the local subnet.
      • Specify a target or device by IP address—Displays supported device types. Select a device from the list and enter an IP address for the device to add the device to the project.
    • New target or device—Displays targets and devices that you can create without a physical target or device present. You must change the properties for the target from the General Properties page of the RT target Properties dialog box to specify a name and IP address and bind it to an existing RT Series device before you attempt to connect to or run a VI on the target.
  4. Select a target and then click the OK button. An item representing the RT target appears in the Project Explorer window.

You can add and remove items under an RT target.
