The output and measurement ranges for the NI PXIe-4154 are listed under the device section. The measurement range is implicitly selected based on the configured output range. Thus, you cannot change the measurement range independently of the output range.

When the output function is set to NIDCPOWER_VAL_DC_VOLTAGE using the niDCPower_ConfigureOutputFunction function or DC Voltage using the niDCPower Configure Output Function VI, the following ranges are used.

Channel Current Limit Range Current Limit
0 30 mA +100 µA to +30 mA
3 A +10 mA to +3 A
1 1.5 A +10 mA to +1.5 A

When the output function is set to NIDCPOWER_VAL_DC_CURRENT using the niDCPower_ConfigureOutputFunction function or DC Current using the niDCPower Configure Output Function VI, the following ranges are used.

3 A +10 mA to +3 A
1 1.5 A +10 mA to +1.5 A

Note Note  If a range other than what is listed in the following tables is selected, the range is coerced to the next-highest range. For example, requesting the 1 A current limit range on Channel 0 on the NI PXIe-4154 coerces the current limit range to 3 A. Refer to the Ranges topic for more information about coercion.

Overranging

Enabling overranging for a particular channel extends voltage output capabilities from 100% to 105% and current capabilities from 100% to 103.5% for the output range. Overranging is applicable to output ranges only and does not apply to measurement ranges. Measurements in any given range may be made up to 105% of the range by default without enabling overranging.

Considerations When Making Range Changes

Changes in voltage and current level occur simultaneously when the device configuration is applied upon entering the Running state. However, changes do not occur simultaneously if there is a voltage or current range change involved.

Caution Caution  If the current range is changed while the NI PXIe-4154 is in constant current mode, then a spike in the output current could occur for a maximum of 2 ms. This will not occur if the NI PXIe-4154 is in constant voltage mode.
