Rule violations that may not necessarily result in incomplete or inaccurate project analysis but that alert you to potential issues appear as warning messages on the Rule Check pane. The following table lists possible warning messages, explains each warning, and suggests how to resolve each warning.

Warning Message Explanation Resolution
Attribute defined several times Requirements Gateway captures an attribute more than once in the same requirement. This warning can occur when Requirements Gateway fails to capture a requirement in a document because the requirement does not adhere to the formal syntax defined for the requirement element of the type. Requirements Gateway still captures the attributes but links the attributes to the previous requirement, resulting in multiple instances of the same attribute for a requirement. Use the Types pane of the Configuration dialog box to correct the syntax in the regular expression for the requirement element of the type and remove the additional attribute instances from the affected requirement.
Bad section level The definition of the section element for a type contains improper syntax in the regular expression used for capturing and nesting sections. The capture sections do not follow the hierarchy the type specifies. An example of improper nesting is a Heading 3 section that directly follows a Heading 1 section with no interceding Heading 2 section. Correct the source document to match the captured hierarchy, correct the expression syntax for the section element of the type to capture and nest sections, or enable the Ignore Structure Elements option on the Details tab on the Project pane of the Configuration dialog box for the affected document.
Element modified but not found in original document Requirements Gateway captures an element in a modification document but not found the element in the original document that is supposed to be modified. Delete the element from the modification document.
Element with parent not found in the original document You added an attribute to a requirement in Requirements Gateway but the requirement in the project document source file no longer exists. Remove the attribute in Requirements Gateway.
Link defined several times The same element defines two links. Delete one of the links.
Reference attribute defined several times Requirements Gateway captures a reference attribute more than once in the same requirement. Correct the syntax in the regular expression for the requirement element of the type and remove the additional reference attribute instances from the affected requirement.
Reference attribute without reference Requirements Gateway captures a reference attribute but cannot attach the reference attribute to a reference. Create a reference to attach the reference attribute to or delete the reference attribute.
Requirement defined in several documents, and the documents are covered by different documents Requirements Gateway captures the same requirement, derived requirement, or macro-requirement in more than one document. Define the requirements of each document differently.
Reuse of deleted requirement identifier You deleted a requirement by specifying an expression in the Expression to delete an element control of the Advanced Options tab of the Types pane and then create a requirement with the same identifier. Rename the requirement you created.
