Use the main window to create an attribute and apply it to a requirement without modifying a project document source file.

Creating an Attribute

Complete the following steps to create an attribute.

  1. In the Coverage Analysis or Impact Analysis view, select the requirement to which you want to add an attribute.
  2. Right-click the selected requirement and select Add an Attribute from the context menu to launch a submenu that contains the following options:
Note Note  If the submenu contains only one option (Empty), select Use internal types on the General tab of the Options pane so that Requirements Gateway displays the following options.
    • Define a Boolean attribute—Launches a dialog box in which you can specify a name for a new Boolean attribute.
    • Define a Value attribute—Launches a dialog box in which you can specify a name and value for a new Value attribute.
  3. Select Define a Boolean attribute or Define a Value attribute.
  4. Specify an attribute name in the Type attribute name control of the dialog box and click OK. If you are creating a Value attribute, Requirements Gateway launches a second dialog box, in which you can specify the value for the attribute.
  5. (Value attribute) Specify a value in the Attribute value? control of the dialog box and click OK.

Requirements Gateway saves the added information in a separate filename_modification_.txt file in the same directory as the project and applies a modification file to the original project document. Requirements Gateway displays a yellow icon on the original project document to indicate that the document has a modification file applied.

Modifying Attribute Values

You can modify attribute values in the following ways using the Requirement Details view, which uses columns to display the attributes captured from the project documents and adds columns for each Boolean or Value attribute you create for the project:

  • For Boolean attributes, toggle the checkmark in the appropriate attribute column for the requirement to change the value.
  • For Value attributes, double-click the appropriate attribute column for the requirement and specify a new value for the attribute. In the Requirement Details view, you can enter different values for the same Value attribute on multiple requirements. You can also copy and paste attribute values to propagate attribute values to other attributes. You can select multiple attributes and paste values to these attributes.

Reviewing Attributes in a Project

Requirements Gateway displays attributes in the following locations in the main window.

  • As a child of a requirement. Requirements Gateway displays new attribute below the requirement when you expand the requirement in Coverage Analysis or Impact Analysis view.
  • On the Selection pane of the Attributes tab of the Coverage Analysis and Impact Analysis views when you select the parent requirement.
  • On the Attributes pane of the Graphical view when you select the parent requirement.
  • In the Requirement Details view as an available attribute.

Removing an Attribute

To delete a single instance of an attribute, right-click the attribute in the Coverage Analysis or Impact Analysis view and select Delete from the context menu. To delete all the instances of an attribute, select the name of the appropriate attribute column in the Requirement Details view, right-click, and select Delete from the context menu. You can delete only the attributes that you add in Requirements Gateway, and not the attributes defined in project documents.
