The TestStand XML Reports type browses a specified TestStand XML report file—or a directory that contains TestStand XML report files—for step results that specify the correct information for references.

You typically use a document of the TestStand type to cover requirements sourced in an external document, such as a text file, and you can use a TestStand XML Reports document to cover the steps in the sequence files of the TestStand document. You can also use a document of the NI ATML TR type to specify a TestStand ATML report file that covers a TestStand file.

Note Note  The TestStand XML Reports type can analyze only XML results, not Automatic Test Markup Language (ATML), HTML, or ASCII reports. In addition, TestStand 2011 and earlier do not allow you to generate multiple report files at the same time. Refer to the NI website at ni.com/info and enter the info code rd2rit to access the TestStand support document, Generating Two Reports in TestStand, which contains information about how to alter the process model to generate two report files. Refer to the NI TestStand Help for more information about ATML reports.
Tip Tip  Complete the TestStand XML report tutorial to learn how to add to a project a downstream TestStand XML Reports document that covers requirements in an upstream TestStand document.

Traceability Elements

The TestStand XML Reports type captures the following traceability information from a TestStand XML report file:

  • Section—The results of an XML report file, the files within directories, and the critical failure stack for failing units under test (UUTs).
  • Reference—A step result with a unique step ID that refers to a step in a TestStand sequence file. An upstream document of the TestStand type specifies the sequence file that contains the step that the result references.
  • Attribute—Indicates UUT and step result information.
  • Reference Attribute—Indicates the status of the step result.
  • Link—A critical stack failure element that refers to the associated step result.

Configuring a TestStand XML Reports Document

You can use multiple TestStand XML report files in a single project document to cover requirements. Requirements Gateway considers upstream requirements covered if the combination of TestStand XML report files in a single downstream TestStand XML Reports document covers the requirements.

The TestStand XML Reports type defines the following document settings you configure for a TestStand XML Reports document on the Details tab of the Project pane of the Configuration dialog box:

  • File or Directory—The TestStand XML report file or directory that contains TestStand XML report files. Click File Browse to launch the Select Files to Include in Document dialog box, in which you can select one or more TestStand XML report files.
  • Variable—Defines the following variables:
    • Category—Assigns an analysis category to the TestStand XML Reports document. Select a category from the Value pull-down menu. Use the Overall Quality pane of the Management view to review the use of analysis categories in a project.
