A link specifies a non-covering relationship to a requirement, or a reference to a section or entity. A link element must refer to the ID of the requirement, section, or entity. In the main window, you can navigate from the link element to the target requirement, section, or entity element.

After you define a link element for a custom type on the Types pane of the Configuration dialog box, use the Graphical view to create links from a document of the custom type.

Specify the following link element options on the Types pane of the Configuration dialog box:

Example Link Expression

Complete the following steps to specify a regular expression to capture the string See_REQ_Specs1_(Specifications) in a source file as a link.

  1. For a link element you create, enter the expression See_(REQ_\S*)_\(([^\s\|#]*)\)$ in the Regular expression control on the Analysis tab of the Types pane.
  2. Right-click the Regular expression control and select Field 1»Target from the context menu to assign Field 1 to Target.
  3. Right-click the Regular expression control and select Field 2»Target from the context menu to assign Field 2 to Target.
