Click the Link Details tab in the main window to display the Link Details view, which you can use to review the type of references used in a project or to create additional references between requirements and covering elements without modifying project document source files.

To create a new reference, you must first use the Types pane of the Configuration dialog box to create a type for added elements and define at least one reference element for the type for added elements. Then, you must use the Project pane of the Configuration dialog box to apply the type for added elements to a modification file for the covering document.

The Link Details view contains the following options:

  • From—Contains the following tabs for selecting and configuring a downstream document you want to use to cover an upstream requirement:
    • Document—Select the project document that covers requirements that you want to use to create a new reference to an upstream requirement. Select the requirement to cover in the Requirements control on the To pane.
    • Document content—Displays the traceability elements of the selected document.
    • Link type—Select a reference element defined for the type applied to the selected document.
    • Attributes—Lists the attributes for a requirement you select in the Document content control.
    • Messages—Displays helpful information, including rule violation details, for the element you select in the Document content control.
    • History—Summarizes any references you previously created or deleted for the element you select in the Document content control. Requirements Gateway displays this tab after you select Keep a history of cover link creation and deletion in Link Details view on the General tab of the Options pane of the Configuration dialog box.
    • Text—Text associated with the element you select in the Document content control and defined in the project document source file.
  • To—Contains the following tabs for selecting and configuring an upstream requirement you want to cover with a downstream document:
    • Requirements—Displays the requirements of the covered document.

If the element you select in the Document content control on the From pane already covers the requirement you select in the Requirements control on the To pane, the checkbox next to the requirement contains a green icon.

If the element you select in the Document content control on the From pane does not cover the requirement you select in the Requirements control on the To pane, select a reference element from the Link type pull-down menu on the From pane and enable the checkbox next to the requirement on the To pane to create a reference between the selected document and the selected requirement.
    • Filter—Enter a case-sensitive string or regular expression you want to use to filter the requirements that appear in the Requirements control. For example, enter the string REQ1 to show only requirements that contain the text REQ1, or enter the regular expression ^PS_.*2$ to show only requirements that begin with the string PS and end with the character 2.
    • Reference Attributes—Assign values to reference attributes for a reference you create between the selected document and the selected requirement. The type for added elements you apply to the modification file for the covering document must specify a reference attribute element in order to assign a reference attribute value. Click the Value column and select a value you defined for the reference attribute element of the type for added elements.
    • Messages—Displays helpful information, including rule violation details, for a selected requirement for which you created a reference.
    • Information—Summarizes any references you previously created or deleted and any reference attribute values you assigned for the selected requirement. Requirements Gateway displays this tab after you select Keep a history of cover link creation and deletion in Link Details view on the General tab of the Options pane of the Configuration dialog box.
    • Text—Text associated with the selected requirement.

The Link Details view provides the following additional functionality:

  • Click the History tab on the From pane to display the history of references you created or deleted.
  • Use the Filter pane on the To pane to enter a case-sensitive string or regular expression you want to use to filter the requirements that appear in the Requirements control. For example, enter the string REQ1 to show only requirements that contain the test REQ1, or enter the regular expression ^PS_.*2$ to show only requirements that begin with the string PS and end with the character 2.
  • If a requirement in the Requirements control displays a green square instead of checkmark, the covering document covers the requirement using a reference of a type other than the reference you selected from the Link type pull-down menu. Hover the cursor over the green square to display a tooltip that specifies the type of reference that covers the requirement.
  • When you enable the Comment cover link creation and deletion in Link Details view option on the General tab of the Options pane of the Configuration dialog box, Requirements Gateway launches the Link Creation dialog box when you place a checkmark next to the requirement you want to cover or remove an existing checkmark. Enter a comment associated with the creation or deletion of the reference and click OK. The comment appears on the History tab of the From pane and on the Information tab of the To pane for the selected requirement.
