You can deploy a Measurement Studio Windows Application using merge modules or XCOPY deployment. Refer to the following sections for information about each deployment type.

Note: For legal information concerning the deployment of applications built with Measurement Studio, refer to the Application Deployment section of the National Instruments General Purpose Software License Agreement at Refer to <National Instruments>\_Legal Information.txt for information on where to find the license agreements and/or notices to include for third-party components.

Merge Modules Deployment

Along with assemblies and libraries, Measurement Studio ships a set of redistributable merge modules for integration into a Visual Studio deployment project or any MSI installation creation tool. These merge modules support deploying to applications on Windows 7/Vista/XP/Server 2003 and 2008 (R2 editions) operating systems. To learn more about creating a deployment project refer to How to: Create or Add Deployment Projects in the Microsoft Visual Studio documentation.

When building a setup project, Measurement Studio has taken care to install merge modules in the default installation location ( Program Files\Common Files\Merge Modules ) so that a deployment creation application such as Visual Studio can automatically find and use the necessary merge modules. Under certain circumstances you need to include merge modules that are not automatically detected. To learn more about using merge modules refer to How to: Add Merge Modules to a Deployment Project in the Microsoft Visual Studio documentation. Use the tables in Measurement Studio .NET Merge Modules to determine the necessary merge modules for your application.

Deploying with Device Drivers

If your Windows application uses National Instruments device drivers you must install them with your application. These drivers can be found on the NI Device Drivers DVD that ships with Measurement Studio or any later version of the Device Drivers DVD. To install these drivers, insert the DVD and run setup.exe, then follow the wizard to install the drivers necessary for your application. You do not need to install the Measurement Studio support. For your application to function properly, you need to install only the run-time components of the necessary drivers. Next, install your setup project with the necessary merge modules to complete your application installation process.

What Are the Necessary Steps to Install My Windows Application?

  1. Create a new setup project in your current Visual Studio application solution. Refer to How to: Create or Add a Setup Project in the Microsoft Visual Studio documentation.
  2. Add the project output of your application to the necessary installation locations. Refer to How to: Add Items to a Deployment Project in the Microsoft Visual Studio documentation.
  3. Add any undetected dependencies to the setup project. Refer to How to: Create or Add a Merge Module Project in the Microsoft Visual Studio documentation.

For more setup project options, refer to Walkthrough: Deploying a Windows-based Application in the Microsoft Visual Studio documentation.

XCOPY Deployment

Measurement Studio supports XCOPY deployment for Windows applications. Refer to Measurement Studio .NET XCOPY Deployment Files for more information on how to use XCOPY deployment.
