This topic documents what features Measurement Studio integration includes, how Measurement Studio integration works, and how you can manually set up Measurement Studio integration in the Visual Studio environment.

Measurement Studio integrates into the Visual Studio environment as a set of VSPackages. Measurement Studio integration includes the following features and functionality.

Note: Project files created in Visual Studio 2010 must target the .NET Framework 4.0 for the Measurement Studio components to show in the toolbox.
Note: For more information about VSPackages, refer to VSPackages in the Microsoft Developer Network. For specific information about Measurement Studio integration features, refer to Creating Projects with Measurement Studio Core in the NI Measurement Studio Help.

How is Measurement Studio Integration Installed on My Machine?

Measurement Studio integration is installed when the Measurement Studio installer runs devenv /setup during installation. Visual Studio Integration is an entry in the Measurement Studio installer feature tree and is selected by default. You can determine if Measurement Studio integration is properly configured on your machine.

  1. Check to see if you receive any package load errors or if any Measurement Studio integration features are missing, such as the Measurement Studio menu.
  2. Select Help»About Microsoft Visual Studio. NI Measurement Studio should be listed in the installed products list.

If Measurement Studio integration is properly installed on your machine, you should not receive any package load errors and Measurement Studio should be listed in the About Microsoft Visual Studio dialog box.

However, in some cases, the Measurement Studio installer may fail to properly install the Visual Studio Integration feature, or your machine could get into a state that unregisters Measurement Studio integration. In these cases, you can manually set up Measurement Studio integration.

Manually Setting Up Measurement Studio Integration

  1. Close Visual Studio.
  2. Select Start»All Programs»<Microsoft Visual Studio>»Visual Studio Tools»Visual Studio Command Prompt.
  3. In the Visual Studio command prompt, type devenv /setup.
Note: To add Measurement Studio controls to the Visual Studio Toolbox, right-click the Toolbox, select Choose Items and select the National Instruments components you want to add. If National Instruments components are not listed, click Browse and browse to the Measurement Studio Assemblies\Current folder and select the National Instruments assembly that includes the UI controls you want to add.

If running devenv /setup and adding Measurement Studio controls to the Toolbox does not restore Measurement Studio integration on your machine, rerun the Measurement Studio installer and verify that the Visual Studio Integration feature is enabled.
