Standard Measurements

NI VMS is able to perform a very comprehensive range of standard video parameter measurements on Composite, S-Video, and Component analog video signals, and on digital video signals.  Each of these types of signal has different characteristics and therefore requires its own set of measurements.  Use the following lists to find information about the measurement in terms of what test signal is required and what the measurement means. Also refer to Test Signals Required for Measurements for information about which test elements are required for these measurements.

CVBS Camera Measurements

Camera measurements are an optional (licensed) set of measurements that can be performed only on Composite signals. CCD cameras require special measurements to identify defects in the CCD pixel array and to verify operation of iris, focus, sharpness, colour, contrast, brightness adjustments. Other signal characteristics can be performed using the Standard measurements. None of these measurements require a locations file.

VBI Measurements

Vertical Blanking Information (VBI) measurements are an optional (licensed) set of measurements that can be performed on Composite and S-Video signals. VBI data signals that can be analysed include Wide Screen Signalling (WSS) and Closed Captioning (CC). These signals are analysed in terms of the levels, timing, and validity of run-in and start patterns, the levels, timing, and decoded values of data bits, and verification of data error checking bits.
