You can customize the InsightCM web application through device, module, and channel definition files, as well as the asset node definition editor. The following illustrations show the places where you can customize the InsightCM web application by adding new property fields or values.

New Device Dialog Box

Reasons to customize:

  • To allow users to apply the settings and application software you define for a particular device type.
  • To allow users to reflect a model of hardware in their device for which you added support, such as a new data acquisition module.

Available device types, which determine the capabilities, configurable options, and device application associated with the device Device type definition

Operating States Tab on Assets Page

Reasons to customize:

  • To show or hide tabs from users.
  • To allow users to configure properties that the device software requires.

Operating state of selected data group
File Collection Settings properties for the operating state whose tab is displayed

Channels Tab on Devices Page

Reason to customize: To configure the type and number of channels supported by a particular module, as well as the default channel naming scheme.

Number of channels available on each module type Module type definition
Default channel name, including the portions prior to and following the dash Hardware definition or module definition

Properties Tab on Assets Page

Reason to customize: To allow users to configure properties that the device software requires.

Description Where to Define
Asset types supported by the selected asset Asset Node Definition Editor
Whether the selected asset type supports any derived assets
Labels of user-defined sections and the property fields that appear inside.
Labels, data types, and default values for user-defined properties

Features Tab on Assets Page

Reasons to customize:

  • To set which features and spectral bands are supported for the selected asset type.
  • To allow users to configure properties that the device software requires.

Reason to customize: To allow users to view features and spectral bands for which you add support.

Names, data types, and default values of feature properties

Reason to customize: To allow or require users to assign a feature or spectral band to channels of a particular type.

Features and spectral bands that the selected asset supports
Whether NI InsightCM Server requires the device to calculate a particular feature or spectral band and prevents users from removing the feature

Reason to customize: To allow users to configure the device to perform measurements in different units
